Questlove’s YouTube series lets him get curious about his peers without scaring them off

As an endlessly curious person, Questlove has a tendency to switch into something his friends have affectionately dubbed “journalist mode.”

When this happens, Questlove says, it’s usually with a peer that he admires—and it involves asking probing questions about their craft until they begin to feel, by his estimation, “extremely freaked out.” While that approach can be somewhat disarming around the dinner table, it also makes Questlove (born Ahmir Thompson) a highly insightful interviewer. That skill is the heart of his YouTube series Quest for Craft—a partnership with whisky distillery The Balvenie—which recently debuted its third season and includes interviews with Anderson .Paak, Yo-Yo Ma, Fred Armisen, and Lena Waithe.

Eddie Bauer changed its logo because Gen Z doesn’t read cursive

After 59 years, outdoor outfitter Eddie Bauer is trading its cursive logo for something a bit more tangible: a goose.

But not just a goose. The bird is accompanied by a simplified version of the brand name, now written in all-caps block lettering. On the full stack logo, additional details include the company’s date of establishment (1920) and the phrase outdoor outfitters. It’s a major rebrand that launches on Eddie Bauer’s digital platforms today and will start to appear at international brick-and-mortars on a rolling basis. By fall 2024, all Eddie Bauer products will begin to feature the updated logo.

Viral YouTubers are giving cereal the silly rebrand it needs

Some proof: The creative duo behind the umbrella company Mythical recently launched a new cereal brand MishMash, which comes in two varieties—Peanut Butter N’ Honey Sandwich and Sweet Mac N’ Mello—and is packaged in brightly colored, eye-catching boxes. Each box features a retro-style cartoon mascot called the MishMash Randler, who’s a combination of a mouse, bird, and reindeer. And on the inside of the package, customers will find a game board that can be played using the cereal as pieces.

Netflix’s new thriller ‘Fair Play’ explores what happens when women are more successful than men at work

With Fair Play, Domont pushes patriarchal power dynamics to their extreme (yet, sadly, not implausible) ends. She spoke with Fast Company about the connection between romance and finance, treatment of women in the workplace, and female rage. This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity, and contains light spoilers. Where did you find the inspiration for Fair Play?

Life. This was a story that was burning inside of me and compounding for many years, whether I was aware of it or not. I

This app shows you where the rats are in NYC’s subway system (spoiler: everywhere)

You might have seen them perched on a train track, their beady eyes glowing in the dark. They could’ve been scurrying to a hidden tunnel in the wall or grabbing a loose crumb just before the Q train arrived. Maybe they were even hitching a ride during your morning commute. While the specifics vary, encountering a rat in the subway is a near-universal New York experience. And now, there’s data to prove it.

The mobile app Transit is compiling user responses to track rat sightings across New York’

"Bound by Blood" captures stories of state violence through those left behind

Along the main wall of The Luminary’s gallery space, seven portraits of St. Louis women are accompanied by multiple paragraphs of text. Each woman wears everyday clothes and looks into the camera, while behind her, a collage of colorful flowers blooms outward. The exhibition—titled Bound by Blood—centers the stories of women whose loved one’s lives have been taken by state violence.

Bound by Blood is a collaboration between legal advocacy organization ArchCity Defenders and visual production co

Machine Gun Kelly lands at Enterprise Center for his "Mainstream Sellout" tour

Audiences at Machine Gun Kelly’s Wednesday night performance might’ve thought that his entrance via prop helicopter would be the most shocking part of the show. Maybe they were especially impressed by the plumes of fire shooting out from behind the artist, or the giant blimp shaped as a man hovering over the stage. But the rapper and singer was saving the best surprise (well, for those who missed the Instagram story) of the night for later: a visit from blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.

Paint Louis celebrates 25 years of art and hip hop at the flood wall

This weekend, the annual graffiti art and hip-hop event Paint Louis will celebrate its 25th anniversary. With the permission of the City of St. Louis, more than 400 mural artists will gather to fill a two-mile stretch of the downtown flood wall with vibrant, eye-catching installations. Guests can also catch performances from about 30 musical artists, including headlining rapper KRS-One, while they watch the murals go up.

Before Paint Louis grew to an event attended by upward of 50,000 people, t

Meet Northwestern royalty

The summer before his senior year of high school, Medill third-year Jude Cramer attempted drag for the first time, using makeup that he’d stolen from his mom.

Cramer’s interest in the art form increased from there — but only in secret. To complete his looks, he started stashing away wigs from his high school’s costume shop and poaching dresses from his sister’s closet. In the privacy of his childhood bedroom, Cramer’s drag persona began to take shape.

After almost two years of practicing his c
